Looking towards a future in Marine Biology? Join our new Internship program

Internships are designed to provide MiraCosta College students with workplace experience and new skills.
The Pfleger Institute (PIER) is dedicated to cutting-edge field research in support of sustainable fisheries and other critical issues in marine science.
PIER has joined with Jeanine Donley, Professor of Marine Biology, to offer an exciting internship program designed for biology majors.

* Learn techniques for studying the movement patterns and muscle physiology of large pelagic sharks.
* Participate in all steps of the scientific method, from data collection to publication and presentation.
* Participate in field research on board the R/V Malolo, PIER's primary research platform.
* The Malolo has been instrumental in the tagging of striped marlin, swordfish, bluefin tuna, white seabass, giant sea bass, and white sharks.
